Exploring the Superior Wood Selections in Flexxform's Construction Process

It’s been a minute since we answered your hard-hitting questions about our construction…

And today, we are going to go into depth about wood.

But not just any wood.

Specifically, the wood used in Flexxform furniture.

Flexxform uses 4 different types of wood.

One: Oak

Oak is one of the strongest hardwoods that can be used in furniture. However, because it is so strong it tends to be a lot more valuable and heavier than most other woods.

That’s why we only use it in the base of our lounge furniture.

Anywhere a foot, glide, or caster goes into our pieces, we use oak.

And why’s that?

Well, most wood expands over time. And what I mean by that is when you have a screw in most wood, over time that hole around the screw will start to pull away from the screw making a bigger hole, meaning that the screw will eventually fall out.

HOWEVER, with oak, the opposite is true.

When a screw is entered into oak wood, over time the wood's grasp on that screw tightens, because oak tends to compress over time. Meaning as the years go on it actually holds that screw tighter, meaning your foot, glide, or caster is less likely to fall out!

Two: Beech

Beech is one of the main components of our lounge furniture.

Like oak it is still a hardwood, however, it is a lighter easy to come across wood that is just about as strong but doesn’t have the weight or price tag of oak wood.

Because it is a softer hardwood than oak, screws, staples, and the like are a lot easier to use, making it just a lot easier to work with.

However, it is still just as durable and a LOT stronger than the likes of plywood or chipboard.

Three: Birch

Birch is a very similar wood to beech and has very similar qualities.

The only reason we use birch instead of beech and vice versa depends on what is easier to receive at that moment.

We use birch and beech interchangeably because they are very similar in working with and quality!

Four: Canadian Plywood

And finally, we have Canadian-made plywood. This is one of the strongest versions of plywood you can find.

We use this in non-load-bearing parts of our lounge furniture and for our ottoman bases.

This plywood is still very strong, but we only use it where it is more practical than hardwood.

For the sake of our production team's pride, I have to note, that we do NOT use any chipboard or OSB.

Why’s that you ask?

Well, we don’t exactly pride ourselves in having chairs that fall apart, do we?

No, we pride ourselves on having long-lasting furniture that will last a lifetime.

So, logically we must use hardwood and plywood, not any of the chipboards that will probably last half the time due to the poor quality of those woods.

And that’s that.

I hope we provided you with a topic of conversation for your next family get-together. 😋

I’m kidding, please don’t bring it up you may create a collective rolling of eyes because the type of wood used in Flexxform furniture isn’t exactly a stimulating topic of conversation.

However, we know you furniture nerds were interested…!
